2020 3rd round pick Lucas Niang will finally take to the field this season as the Chiefs offensive linemen, ideally at right tackle. Niang, opted out of the 2020 season because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Now since numbers are down and vaccines are available, he will take the field this fall for the first time as a Kansas City Chief. Niang isn’t the only one who abstained from the 2020 season according to the NFL’s official website sixty-seven football players chose not to play in order to keep themselves and others safe from the pandemic. Check it out here.
The Kansas City Chiefs chose Niang in the third round of the draft and was ninety-sixth overall.
Niang played for TCU, and this will be his first season playing for a professional team. At TCU Niang made a name for himself as the only offensive linemen to start all thirteen games in the 2018 season.
Current NFL defensive end Chase Young even said Niang was one of his toughest matchups in college.

In the 2019 season, he played six of the seven games as the right tackle. Something that makes Naing stand out is that in the 2018 and 2019 seasons he did not allow a sack. Hopefully, he can bring the same energy to the chiefs this year.

Lucas Niang will help bolster the Chiefs offensive line in 2021
Niang will be a great addition to the team and his skills such as being able to anchor well and play strength will bode well for Niang’s potential in the Chiefs offense. Fans following the Kansas City Chiefs are excited for the new faces coming to the offensive line including Niang because the Chiefs now have so much size on the front line. Niang’s build also gives him an advantage. He stands at six-foot-six and weighs three-hundred and fifteen pounds. The first game the Chiefs are going to play is still weeks away so we will have to wait to see him in action, but camp reviews from the coaches seem to indicate Niang is coming along nicely.
“He’s a big man — like really, a big man — that has these beautiful feet. So I look forward to getting him back in the pads in training camp: moving around, doing what offensive linemen do — the real football part of it.”- Chiefs head coach Andy Reid
Pre-season isn’t until August so fans can only speculate what he might do this season. If his record can give us anything to go off of, it would be that Niang has some real dedication and skill and we can see him as the starting tackle this year.
The Kansas City Chiefs have really focused on building up their offense this season, making it one of the biggest storylines on the Chiefs to watch this season. Last year the Offense faced a lot of problems that stemmed from the offensive line struggles. The added depth to the offensive line should also help the Chiefs avoid another situation like last year’s and Niang certainly plays a part in that.
Hopefully, this year will bring better results. Niang has the potential to be the highlight of this season if he can live up to his potential and look to replace the might Mitchell Schwartz on the bookend.
